What is the UES?

Welcome to the UES! If you found your way to this announcement, you are probably wondering what is the UES and how does it affect me? Basically, as an undergraduate engineering student, you are all members of the UES. The UES Council is here to make sure that you have the best possible 4+ years here at Western. My fantastic team is made from 59 student volunteers who have been working extremely hard this summer to make sure that everything runs without a hitch. Here is a little more detail of what you should expect from us over the next year:

Social Events: Allie Bachtold, this year’s VP Social has been planning dozens of social events that will allow us to shake loose and have some fun together as a community. I have met a lot of my closest friends at these events so I urge you to go as many as you can.

Clubs/Teams/Societies: Ruhmaa Bhatti, this year’s VP Internal is in charge of making sure that our students have the resources to embrace their passions and develop technical expertise. My advice is to go to club’s week and talk to all the different clubs to find what interests you. You won’t just gain friends; you will also find mentors that can help you with school and life.

Academic and Career: Christian Singh is our VP Academic this year. He is here to help you reach your true potential. Christian and his team have been planning many events from the Annual Professional Development Conference to Industry Spotlights to make sure that you are ready to meet the working world.

External Relations: Ivan Zvonkov will be travelling around the country this year to make sure that Western’s voice is heard at provincial and national undergraduate engineering conferences. If going to conferences interests you, you can apply to attend. Keep an eye out for applications on our Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/westernues/

The UES Lounge and +/- Store: The UES Lounge is one of our students’ favourite places to hang out by playing pool or studying at the whiteboard tables with friends. In the UES Lounge, there is the +/- Store, run by VP F&A Arianna Basilone and her team where you can purchase engineering spirit wear and Rick’s shirts.

Social Media: Julia Terek, is our VP Communications. Not only does she keep council organized by taking beautiful meeting minutes, but she also is in charge of keeping you updated with all of the events the UES has to offer. You can find these updates on our Facebook page and our website: www.westernues.com.

You: My team and I are here to make sure that you can make the most out of the next 4+ years. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or inquiries of the like, please feel free to contact me at prez@uwo.ca.
